Etna craters |

This excursion permits
to have
an overview of
Mt. Etna upper areas (up
to 2900ms) and of the 2002
eruption.
There are 2 different
options (Guide will
decide which one will
take place depending
on weather or
volcanological
conditions or for any
other reason).
We'll visit:
option a)
the south side (up to
Rifugio Sapienza) and the
summit areas (up to
2900ms)
or
option b) the estern
and northern slopes
(Piano Provenzana) and
the summit areas (up to
2900ms) of
the Etna volcano.
Itineray full details
option a)
We'll reach the Rifugio Sapienza
area (1900m) sited
on Etna's southern
slope. Here it begins the
tour
toward the main zones
(2900m), by cableway
and 4WD Bus. It arrives
at the foot of the
majors craters where it's
possible to visit the
eruptive vents of the
2002-03 (south side),
placed on the southern
side of the mountain.
Going
back to the Rifugio
Sapienza by cableway,
the excursion continues
with the visit of a
tipical lava tunnel
cave, supplied with
provided helmets and torchs.
option b)
We'll reach the
Piano Provenzana area
(1900m) sited on Etna's
nothern slope., begins the
tour
toward the main zones
(2900m), by 4WD Bus. It arrives
at the foot of the
majors craters close the
Volcanological
Observatory. After a
stop of about 15
minutes, along the way
back other two stops
will be done. The first
stop will take place at
2400ms to observe the
highest part of the the
2002 eruptive fissure.
The second stop at
2100ms will permit to
walk up the rim of the
lowest crater of 2002
eruption site.
Going
back to the Piano
Provenzana ticket office,
the excursion continues
with the visit of a
tipical lava tunnel
cave, supplied with
provided helmets and torchs.
